0:04 welcome today we're getting hands on
0:06 with the North52 decision suite and
0:07 Bringing you five top tips for being
0:09 more productive with decision taping my
0:12 colleague Patrick is going to help us
0:13 with the rundown that's right Bruce
0:15 let's get started with number one well
0:17 what's your what's your first
0:21 tip I'm a big fan of taking the time to
0:24 make my decision tables as clear and as
0:26 easy to read as possible this helps with
0:28 understanding especially if someone did
0:30 not build the Lo original logic and
0:32 makes it easier to spot mistakes in the
0:33 logic okay what can be done to help with
0:37 this there are a couple of features I
0:39 like the first being the comments column
0:41 you can put these anywhere in your
0:42 decision table to provide context to the
0:45 rules it might be a reference to a
0:47 requirement like a user story in aure
0:49 devops a definition for a calculation or
0:53 a note to highlight a change or
0:55 exception to the regular
0:57 Logic the second is the toggle word r
1:00 option on a cell this is really useful
1:02 for comments but the best use is when
1:04 you have conditions that could match one
1:05 or more values in a choice column let's
1:08 look at this example of where we need to
1:09 match on the vessel type and we want to
1:12 add additional types to match on you can
1:14 put them in the condition column one
1:16 after the other like this and the list
1:18 of matching conditions expands beyond
1:19 the column width or we can do a little
1:22 formatting by adding a line break
1:24 between the options once the editor is
1:26 closed again and the cell selected we
1:29 toggle the word word WP on the cell by
1:31 right clicking and selecting cells then
1:33 toggle word wrap next we expand the line
1:36 height to show all values I think you'll
1:38 agree it's much easier to read with the
1:40 word rep enabled yes it's definitely a
1:42 lot clearer and easier to read let's
1:44 talk about your second
1:48 tip I like to be able to work on the
1:50 keyboard so eliminating a few Mouse
1:52 clicks makes me feel more productive
1:54 fortunately there are a couple of
1:56 keyboard shortcuts you should know about
1:57 with North52 okay
2:00 the first being the function key F2 just
2:03 like Excel it allows you to go into cell
2:05 edit mode so you can move about with
2:07 your arrow keys and then F2 to jump into
2:10 edit mode make your edits and then press
2:12 enter to commit the change the second
2:15 shortcut is F4 this toggles advanced
2:17 mode so you can access Row three quickly
2:19 and easily a game changer when working
2:21 with more complex formulas of course you
2:24 can use the right click context menu for
2:26 this too but it's not as quick great
2:28 stuff another top tip with two tips I
2:31 feel like we're making you know progress
2:33 in Great Value here move on to number
2:38 three another productivity
2:40 booster this time navigating complex
2:43 formula with many sheets and lots of
2:45 variables that sounds interesting can
2:47 you show me an
2:48 example sure let's have a look at this
2:51 formula for calculating shipping charges
2:52 in Dublin Harbor we have 11 decision
2:55 table sheets with lots of complex
2:57 pricing rules and inline calculations
2:59 you can obviously click through the
3:01 sheets as I'm doing here but there are
3:03 some that we have hidden from view if we
3:06 go to the source Tab and expand the
3:07 decision table calculations node we can
3:10 easily see all the decision sheets
3:11 listed here what users may not know is
3:15 that you can click on the sheet name and
3:16 it will take you directly to that
3:18 sheet that's very handy already but wait
3:21 there's one more trick here if you hold
3:24 down control while clicking on an inline
3:26 calculation these are shown when you
3:28 expand the decision table not like
3:30 this there is one here for good tariffs
3:33 you'll be taken directly to the part of
3:35 the sheet where this inline calculation
3:37 is defined if we expand tonage rates and
3:40 control click on the price per ton again
3:42 we are taking directly to the inline
3:44 calculation excellent stuff Bruce I
3:47 think we're ready for number
3:51 four this is one of my favorites and
3:54 allows you to easily experiment when
3:55 building rules or eliminate factors when
3:57 trying to find a problem I'm talking
3:59 about three exclude options available
4:01 for when you want to disable processing
4:03 of columns rows or even an entire
4:05 decision table for example if I wanted
4:08 to exclude column d a conditional check
4:11 on the product name I simply select the
4:13 column or a cell in the column and right
4:15 click to reveal the context menu then I
4:18 select operations then toggle exclude
4:20 columns you will notice the value in
4:22 cell D1 has now changed to exclude
4:24 condition and displayed in itex if I
4:27 save this formula and Trigger its
4:29 execution ution column D will be ignored
4:31 in the rules processing to reverse it
4:34 simply select toggle exclude columns
4:36 option again I can see how that would be
4:39 very useful you mentioned excluding rows
4:42 and decision tables too yes in a very
4:45 similar way we can exclude the
4:46 processing of selected
4:48 rows let's say we do not want to process
4:50 the bulk liquid or bulk solid vessels I
4:52 can select these cells and right click
4:54 to show the context menu and then select
4:56 operations then toggle exclude rows rows
4:59 are highlighted in pink and in italics
5:01 when they have been excluded after the
5:03 formula is saved these rows will be
5:05 ignored for processing the final option
5:08 is to exclude an entire decision table
5:11 for this you can right click anywhere
5:13 and select operations then toggle
5:15 decision table the sheet is renamed with
5:17 the word exclude
5:19 appended excluding a decision table can
5:21 be very useful when you want to
5:23 experiment with some changes before
5:24 committing them firstly you would
5:26 duplicate the decision table and then
5:28 you'll exclude the original you can then
5:30 experiment with changes in the copy
5:31 decision table if you need to revert
5:34 simply delete the copy and reenable the
5:36 original some great examples there Bruce
5:38 shall we wrap things up at number
5:42 five sure my last tip is for being more
5:46 productive and to use the search and
5:48 replace function this can be very handy
5:50 for finding something buried in a large
5:52 multi- sheet formula or to Simply
5:54 correct a spelling
5:55 mistake let's use our ports pricing
5:58 example I I want to find where the
6:00 pricing is defined for assisting a
6:02 vessel I can simply type assisting into
6:05 the fine field and click the fine next
6:07 button I'm then taken directly to a
6:09 matching cell on a decision table sheet
6:12 and can make any necessary changes there
6:14 as an example for the replace
6:16 functionality I've spotted a place where
6:18 I've spelled the word charges
6:19 incorrectly I can enter the misspelled
6:22 word and the correction and then click
6:24 replace next this will find the first
6:26 match and highlight the cell allowing me
6:28 to check the contents if I want to
6:30 replace it I click replace next to make
6:33 another
6:34 change if there is another match it will
6:37 be found and I can click replace next to
6:39 make the
6:40 change thanks Bruce five great
6:43 productivity tips covered this should
6:45 really help users of North52 work more
6:47 effectively with decision tables where
6:49 can users go for more information and
6:51 help the first protocol should be our
6:54 support portal at support. 52.com
6:57 there's a ton of great information there
6:59 there but any question should be emailed
7:01 to support 52.com and one of our team
7:04 will respond very
7:06 quickly okay that's it for today's
7:08 session thank you for joining us and
7:10 don't forget to subscribe stay updated
7:13 see you next time
